Description
5 Mukhi Rudraksha
The 5 Mukhi Rudraksha from Nepal is one of nature’s most generous gifts — it’s the most abundant variety in the entire Rudraksha family, born from the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree that grows in the Himalayan forests. What makes it instantly recognisable are the five natural grooves running from the crown to the base of the bead, almost as if nature carved them with intention. Nepal-origin beads tend to run larger — between 14 and 24 mm across — and feel noticeably heavier and firmer in the hand compared to Indonesian ones.
In Hindu tradition, this bead is considered the earthly form of Kalagni Rudra, one of Lord Shiva’s most elemental manifestations. The five mukhis are said to mirror the five building blocks of all existence — earth, water, fire, air, and ether — making it a remarkably complete bead in a spiritual sense. Ancient texts like the Shiva Purana and the Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad speak of it at length, and Vedic astrology links it to Jupiter, the planet of wisdom and higher understanding.
It’s the bead that holds the mala together, quite literally. Most traditional 108-bead malas — used in Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, and yogic practice worldwide — are strung entirely from 5 Mukhi beads. You’ll also find it worn as a single pendant close to the heart, fashioned into 54 or 27-bead bracelets, or crafted into larger malas where the Nepal beads’ size and weight give the piece a satisfying, grounding presence.
Every bead we source comes directly from Himalayan forests in Nepal. You can choose between a naturally unpolished bead that retains its raw, earthy character, or a polished one with a smoother finish. Pendant settings are available in sterling silver or gold. Before any bead leaves us, it is individually checked to confirm all five grooves are genuine and intact — and each one comes with a certificate of authenticity.
